You Forgot
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1 (NIV)
Have you ever heard of Purple Martins? More than one million North Americans put up “housing” for these birds each year in the hopes that they will take up summer residence on their property. I am one of them.
But the other day when I was working out in my yard, I realized I had forgotten to set out their bird house. My reminder came in the form of a Purple Martin that was swooping down just above my head and was warbling insistently. He seemed to be saying, “We’re back! You forgot us!”
I dropped everything I was doing, got the bird house out of the garage, cleaned it out, and put it up. By lunchtime the birds were already sitting on the house — a good sign they’ll take up residence for the summer months.
One of the most amazing things about Purple Martins is they arrive on almost the exact same day every year. How do they know when to leave their winter home in Brazil and begin their long northbound journey? It’s beyond me. Scientists might say it’s a simple fact of bird migration, but I see a powerful, thoughtful Creator.
Sometimes I get discouraged and worried when I see bad things happening, but every year when I see the Martins return from another continent, I’m reminded that God superintends over His creation. Nothing happens of which He is not aware.
In fact, He knows everything you’ve been through, everything you’re going through, and what your future holds. Do you believe that? Today, if you start to doubt His loving care for you, remember how much He cares for even the birds.
What is the price of two sparrows–one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it…. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows. Matthew 10:29, 31 (NLT)
