Under His Wings
Psalm 57:1, 2 (NIV)
Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me,
for in you I take refuge.
I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings
until the disaster has passed.
When I used to hear older Christians talk about having peace in the midst of difficulties I couldn’t understand what they were talking about. How could they be experiencing peace when things seemed so helpless; in the midst of serious health concerns or while facing trials at work or at home? I was too young to understand.
Then later in life when I was going through a personal storm myself I began to experience God’s peace. It was so clear to me that God was watching out for me even though things around me were troubling. It’s something that most of us don’t understand unless we experience it first-hand.
The truth is God is always in control even when things seem dire. He watches over us and we can have the confidence to trust in Him even when the world around us seems to be crumbling.
God’s Word tells us that in times of trial we can take refuge in Him. The imagery is of a mother bird that hides her young under the protection of her wings. Imagine the kind of protection we receive from an all-powerful God when we hide under the shadow of His wing. Isn’t God strong enough to handle our biggest storms?
