God’s a Finisher

Philippians 1:6 (NIV)
being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
I have a couple of projects around the house that I need to finish. Well now that I think about it I have a lot of unfinished projects. There’s a door that needs to be painted. Actually only half of it needs to be painted and you really only see the unfinished side when the door is open. Then there’s a place in my yard that I never actually planted grass when we built the house. It’s an area of weeds and overgrowth. One of these days I’ll get to it. And there’s the toilette room with the paint that doesn’t really match the color of the rest of the bathroom. One of these days I’ll get to that too.
I once read an article in a home improvement magazine that gave what I thought was a good explanation for all of my unfinished work stating that the best part of any home improvement project is the planning stage and an unfinished project allows you to enjoy the planning stage that much longer. For a while I was able to justify my procrastination with this ammunition but the time has come to get these projects finished.
I got to thinking about God and the finishing of projects. He’s really a great finisher. Our verse for today actually says this. So no need to worry that He started with you and then forgot about you. He’s not sitting around thinking that one day He’ll get around to finishing with you.
Hebrews 12:2 (NKJV)
looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
