God Is Who He Is
Deuteronomy 4:39(NIV)
Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other.
It seems that opinions about God and who He is are everywhere these days. I saw it on social media the other day, “This life is all you have, there’s no one and nothing beyond so enjoy today while you have it.” Richard Dawkins the well-known atheist agrees. He’s written a number of books promoting the opinion that the idea of a God is simply a delusion. I’ve often wondered why those who hold these views go to such lengths to try to disprove Him. Why care about someone you don’t believe is actually there?
The Mormons say that God the Father is not eternal but had a physical body and that we are on our way to becoming Gods ourselves. The Hindus believe in a universal Spirit but have many gods. Pantheism teaches that the whole universe is God. Another great thinker named T.H. Huxley came up with the idea that there’s really no way to know if there actually is a God and if there were you certainly couldn’t know Him.
One thing I’ve come to realize is that whatever or whoever God is cannot be determined by what we think about Him, in other words if I say that God is a tree that does not make Him a tree. He’s still what He is and always was regardless of what I think about Him.
Even if we don’t agree with some of these conceptions at least these folks are trying to figure out who God is. So maybe it really is a good thing to explore our questions about who God is so we can relate to Him accordingly. I wonder who you think He is?
Psalm 90:2 (NIV)
Before the mountains were born
or you brought forth the whole world,
from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
